| GMACS is a not-for-profit organisation whose main objective is to protect democratic values and the culture of dialogue and tolerance among individuals, groups and institutions. Human rights activists and groups play a vital role in protecting basic human rights and civil liberties of the individuals and communities regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds. In this sense they become en essential part of the process of building a society based on the respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms. The protection of and supporting those engaged in human rights activities, individuals and organisations, is part of the overall peaceful struggle to achieving freedom and democracy. GMACS will encourage those who fall victims to human rights abuses to take an active role in exposing and confronting those violations by peaceful means. We will work towards raising awareness and knowledge of human rights, among victims and authorities, not only in its broad implication but also in an institutional and legal context. Governments will be reminded of their obligations to respect human rights and civil liberties according to international law and agreed conventions. Solidarity and mutual support among human rights networks at a regional and international level will have a substantial effect in advancing rights issues. Objectives: GMACS will direct its effort and focus its activities on civil and human rights issues for the development of democracy and civil society. In achieving this it will: Encourage government and their institutions to observe the universal declaration and all abiding treaties and conventions. Raise awareness of human rights and its recognised legal framework among individuals, groups, communities and also governments and their institutions. Support, defend and protect human rights activists and their non-governmental organisations from harassment, intimidations and unlawful arrest and prosecutions. Monitor and document all human rights violations and urge governments concerned to immediately take actions to put an end to them. Promote and help establish civil society based on dialogue, tolerance and human rights. Address the issues of refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants and demand that their rights be recognised and protected.
